Test Pilot Job Description Electra seeks an experienced Test Pilot to support the development and piloting of our two-seat prototype and 9-passenger hybrid electric, blown wing, Ultra Short (eSTOL) aircraft. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to impact the future of aviation and advanced air mobility. The position is based in Manassas, Virginia, and involves working with a professional flight team to provide accurate, repeatable, and cost-effective data to engineering. Key responsibilities include piloting experimental aircraft, developing test plans, and supporting certification and test evaluation activities. Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions Conduct experimental flight tests on Ultra Short take-off and landing aircraft Coordinate with engineering teams to develop test plans and procedures Develop and maintain flight manuals, checklists, and operational procedures Participate in safety and flight readiness reviews Complete documentation in line with company and FAA standards Maintain currency and proficiency across multiple aircraft types Perform additional duties as assigned Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field Minimum 10 years of experience as a flight test engineer or test pilot in crewed aircraft evaluation Required Skills Commercial pilot license (single and multi-engine land) with instrument rating FAA Class II Medical without limitations Total flight hours: 1500; turbine hours: 100; PIC: 1000; experimental aircraft testing: 100 hours Graduate of a recognized test pilot school or equivalent experience Experience in risk management, experimental aircraft certification, and testing Knowledge of FAA certification processes and standard flight test procedures Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills Desired Qualifications Master’s degree in engineering or related field Experience with FAA certification programs, aircraft envelope expansion, and simulator development Experience in rapid prototype flight testing and digital flight control systems Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, small team environments Additional Details Travel: Up to 50% domestic and international travel. Salary Range: $111,550 - $261,900, based on experience and qualifications.
