The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is the clinical lead for a program or an area of defined nursing practice. The CNS provides leadership in order to integrate new knowledge and innovation within a specialty area. The CNS's specialized knowledge and skills are used within the three spheres of influence: patient/family, nurses, and the organization/system. The CNS and Nursing Director(s) collaborate to lead clinical practice and education on the unit, with in the division, and across the health system. The CNS is accountable for designing, implementing, and measuring safe, cost effective, evidence-based care strategies. The CNS contributes to the advancement of nursing practice at the unit/system, local, state and national and international levels. The CNS is instrumental in the application of the Professional Practice/Care Transformation Model across the health system. Supports an environment of clinical inquiry. Leads, develops, and implements evidence-based policies and procedures. Leads evidence-based performance improvement initiatives. Critically evaluates new knowledge for adoption into practice. Leads and participates in clinical research. Provides an avenue for displaying performance, viewable to patients, family, and staff in order improve outcomes. Leads implementation of the Care Transformation Model. Leads programs and initiatives that are congruent with EHC and nursing’s strategic plan. Models transformational leadership behaviors. Demonstrates leadership in ethical decision- making and patient advocacy. Engages in ongoing self- evaluation, seeking input from colleagues, other professionals, patients, and families. Leads implementation in the principles of fair and just culture. Provides direct care for complex patient with multi system care issues. Issues may include; biophysical, psycho-emotional, spiritual at the individual, family and community level. Proficient in use of technology to expedite care. Works jointly with nurses and other disciplines to promote patient and family-centered care. Utilizes principles of effective communication. Is cognizant of the diverse needs of patients, staff, and other professionals. Considers cultural influences when collaborating with patients, family, and staff. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Utilizes coaching to facilitate optimally functioning teams. Coaches staff and others and utilizes advanced communication skills. Mentors and coaches professional development. Provides expert nursing consultation to nurses, physicians, patients and families and others to promote quality care. Effectively communicates with the multidisciplinary team. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia; Master's degree in nursing; Meets GA Board of Nursing requirements for CNS; Three years of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse with at least two years of recent experience in the area of concentration. BLS, ACLS, and Healthcare Provider certifications required.
