Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Professional Responsibility, Investigative Operations Directorate, in either: Yuma, AZ Tucson, AZ Sierra Vista, AZ El Centro, CA Los Angeles, CA San Diego, CA San Francisco, CA Washington, DC Miami, FL Indianapolis, IN Detroit, MI New York, NY Alpine, TX Del Rio, TX El Paso, TX Laredo, TX McAllen, TX Seattle, WA Duties This announcement will be open for 5 business days OR until the first 300 applications have been received, whichever happens first. The Criminal Investigator is responsible for coordinating and completing highly complex and sensitive criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving alleged misconduct, criminal activity, and/or corruption by CBP (Customs and Border Protection) employees and related entities. The role includes leading or supporting investigative activities proactively or reactively under the jurisdiction of CBP OPR (Office of Professional Responsibility). This position starts at a salary of $88,621.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $137,000.00 (GS-13, Step 10), with promotion potential to $137,000 (GS-13, Step 10). The listed salary reflects the U.S. scale and will be adjusted based on locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection. For GS-13, experience includes investigating misconduct, serving as an undercover agent, and preparing detailed investigative reports. Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet these requirements. Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer work, and participation in programs like Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, etc. All qualifying experience will be credited. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable, by 05/27/2025. Additional requirements include background investigation, medical examination, firearms proficiency, polygraph examination, drug testing, residency, and probationary period details as outlined.
