Director of Maintenance – Sterling Flight Training (Part 141)

Sterling Flight Training is a premier, FAR Part 141 and Part 61 flight training school based at CRG in Jacksonville, FL, with a satellite operation in TLH. Run by respected aviation professionals and supported by strong financial backing, we deliver high-quality flight instruction with a culture rooted in respect, performance, and professionalism.

We’re looking for a hands-on, mission-minded Director of Maintenance to lead all aspects of aircraft maintenance for our Cessna and Piper training fleet. This role isn’t just about compliance, it’s about keeping our aircraft flying safely and reliably, minimizing downtime, and building a maintenance team that sets the gold standard in general aviation.

Key Qualifications

• Valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings
• Inspection Authorization (IA) and Part 141 experience required
• Minimum 5 years in General Aviation Maintenance leadership
• Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, manufacturer guidance, and best practices
• Valid U.S. driver’s license; ability to pass a comprehensive background check

Responsibilities & Leadership Impact

• Champion a safety-first culture while maximizing aircraft readiness for daily operations
• Lead and mentor maintenance team by example: efficient, forward-thinking, and mission-focused
• Ensure timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance using digital tracking systems
• Develop monthly reporting for performance, safety, compliance, and fleet utilization
• Implement and refine maintenance policies and procedures aligned with FARs and manufacturer standards
• Maintain and revise manuals for accessibility and clarity across the department
• Drive training programs that elevate internal talent and align with regulatory guidance
• Foster vendor relationships, streamline parts ordering, and manage deferred maintenance items
• Monitor tooling calibration and maintain an organized, efficient workspace
• Oversee labor cost control, utilization, billing accuracy, and aircraft inspection scheduling
• Support aircraft hour and cycle tracking for operational forecasting and resale planning
