Leidos Dynetics' Advanced Materials Department is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as Materials Engineering Intern in Summer of 2026. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Advanced Materials Department is a multi-disciplinary team that provides materials engineering expertise for every phase of a program. With backgrounds in materials science, chemistry/chemical engineering, physics, among others, the department has experience in executing a variety of efforts from R&D, to prototype development, to supporting design and build tasks for manufacturing. Beyond subject matter expertise, the department has the analysis equipment, multi-physics modelling capability and experimental lab space to support activities ranging from proof-of-concept experimentation to manufacturing support.

Primary Responsibilities:

• As an integral member of the Advanced Materials Department, the successful candidate will serve as Materials Engineering Intern. This position will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:

• Solving complex engineering challenges with both analytical and experimental approaches.

• Working closely with their mentor on various support tasks beneficial to both the intern's skill development and to the needs of the programs the department supports.

Basic Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a degree program in Materials, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent from an ABET accredited institution.

• Fundamental understanding of Materials Science and Engineering principles and interest in applying these to solve complex problems through analytical and/or laboratory investigations.

• Solid technical communication skills and an ability to work in both collaborative team environments and independently.

• Must be a resident of North Alabama area or willing to relocate in order to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office

• Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to stay focused and succeed in dynamic and fast paced environments

• Experience assembling and providing technical briefings and clear guidance to non-technical audiences

Pay Range:

Pay Range $48,100.00 - $86,950.00
